Coaching Courses

The coaching qualification structure in the UK is run by two bodies for smallbore and air rifle - the National Smallbore Rifle Association (NSRA) and the Great Britain Target Shooting Federation (GBTSF).  The SSRA is currently assisting in the delivery of NSRA and GBTSF coaching courses in Scotland.

The entry level is the NSRA's Club Instructor qualification. This gives a grounding in the basic skills & techniques of prone and positional shooting. The course normally lasts one weekend.

Thereafter, qualifications come under the remit of the GBTSF. The second level is that of Club Coach, where the skills & techniques from the Instructor's course are developed further and greater insight into coaching technique is provided.. Again, the course lasts one weekend.

The County Coach course takes place over three weekends, and further develops techniques and coaching skills as well as introducing participants to the concepts and disciplines of Sports Science. County Coaches are also involved in the delivery of lower level of courses as required.

Regional Coaches coach at Regional and National Squad level, and their qualifying course is geared to that purpose. Beyond this level, National Coach positions are made by appointment only. After qualifying at Regional level, coaches may then be put forward to attend courses to qualify under the internationally recognised ISSF coaching scheme.

Courses can be organised in any area of the country, subject to their being sufficient demand. Please contact the SSRA Development Officer for more details.
