Commonwealth
Games Scotland (CGS) is the lead body for Commonwealth Sport in Scotland and is
responsible for selecting, preparing and managing Scotland's team at the
Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games. This is an exciting time in
Scottish sport and CGS with Scottish Target Shooting is seeking to appoint an
appropriately skilled person for the position of Team Manager: Shooting. This is
a voluntary role with expenses reimbursed.
Graham Shedden, Richard Simpson and Sinclair Bruce have all qualified for the 12-strong team to represent Great Britain in the Pershing Cup at Camp Perry in Ohio in July 2013 following success at the Pershing Trials. In the final element of the trials, Shedden scored 399 with 31 X bulls, Simpson had 400 with 29 Xs and Bruce 400 with 26Xs.
With the implementation of a new set of ISSF rules on the horizon for the start of 2013, the SSRA would like to clarify the rules position for the Air Grand Prix series which started at Glenrothes at the weekend. The 2012-13 series will be run under the CURRENT rules. Results from the first Air Grand Prix can be found on the Domestic Results page.
Balerno & Currie's yearly Open shoot will be staged on the weekend of November 10-11 this year and will have cash prizes on offer thanks to new sponsors Scotweigh. Entry forms can be downloaded here. Meanwhile, contact secretary Alasdair Horne for more information.
Mel Mutch, Jamie Hodgson and Bobby Spence had a successful trip to Jersey for the Commonwealth Shooting Federation (European Division) event. Mutch and Spence won bronze in the 50m Rifle Men's Pairs, Hodgson and Spence took gold in the men's Air Rifle Pairs as well as silver in the Men's 50m 3P Pairs while Mutch also picked up a bronze in the Men's Prone. "I thought it was a good event with some strong opposition, especially in the air rifle and prone event," said Hodgson. "Electronic targets were used for the air rifle event which was great to see. Shooting 3x40 on the three card system was an interesting new experience! I find it hard enough to zero in on one aiming mark!" Full results are available here and on the International Results page. It has now been agreed that the Isle of Man will host the 2013 CSF (ED) event, from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 September 2013. A full programme of 10 metre, 25m and 50m competition will take place on the island plus trap, skeet and double trap. The 50m rifle finals will be contested on electronics while the fullbore rifle competitions will take place at Bisley.
It's a case of better luck next year as Scotland continued its disappointing run of results in the annual match against North Island New Zealand when the official scores were announced here with the North Island scores here.

Scots shooters
returned from the British International 50m Rifle Championships at Bisley with a
haul to remember.
In the wake of London Olympic Games, the ISSF is preparing an overhaul of current rules and regulations. While many of the proposed changes will not receive official ratification until November with implementation due from January 2013, a number of the proposed measures have raised more than an eyebrow amongst the world's top shooters, including a plan that scores from qualification rounds will no longer be carried over into a final - the "start at zero" suggestion. If you are concerned about the future of shooting sports by the suggestions or just curious to know what the implications could be for everybody and what some of the biggest names in the sport think, visit this link to see how you can register your opinion.
The second season of this outdoor competition reached its conclusion this week and Sinclair Bruce won Division 1, Shirley McIntosh Division 2, Cliff Ogle Division 3 and Seonaid McIntosh Division 4. The final sets of results are now available on the Domestic Results page. Congratulations go to the winners who will receive specially commissioned trophies. Developed from the C&D 50m Prone league this season, the event will be back bigger and better next time around....
The schedule for the 2012-13 Air Grand Prix series will be announced soon with the first event expected to take place in a month's time. Plans are also being examined for Kincardine to replace Carlisle in the programme. Check back here for updates on venues in the coming days. Meanwhile, the SSRA Team Prone League will move to a self-scoring basis by clubs this season. The competition will once again be organised by Billy Crawford.

Completed forms should be sent to him at 161 Bailielands, Linlithgow, West Lothian, EH49 7SZ or emailed to performance@ssra.co.uk. Applicants wishing to apply for membership of the High Performance & Fast Track squads should also be pointed at the criteria document available on the STSF website here. Athletes are reminded that membership of the SSRA will be required.
The best stories always have a surprise ending and the A/B Grand Prix Series was no exception. Going into the last round Tom Hodgson held a clear lead on 29 points with the second place being held by John Sinclair on 22 points. Unfortunately Tom failed to qualify for the final leaving John the task of coming in the top two places to win by a clear margin. John started the final in 6th place so it was a difficult task. However , no one was watching the outsider Cyril De Jonckheere who won the final, picking up 12 points on top of his previous 19 points to win the series by 2 points. Cyril, pictured right, commented: “I’ve been trying for long enough.” The top score in the final was an impressive 104.9 , including consecutive 10.9s shot by Bill Vaughan. The winner of the C&D Final was Fiona Spence with a score of 589 , which equalled the top score in the A&B qualification round. Fiona was the clear winner on the C&D Grand Prix Series. Earlier in the day Tom Hodgson won A Class, Maria Bexley won B Class with 591 which was the best score of the day , Fiona Spence won C Class and Ron Nilsen won D Class. The top Junior was Ashleigh Taylor. Thanks go to Peter, Pat and Jennifer for running another excellent day and even providing very pleasant weather even though the wind became more challenging as the day progressed. Iain Malone, too, went the extra mile when he stepped in to run the final. The results from the Grampian 50m Open from Denwood and the final Prone Grand Prix from Gagie are now available on the Domestic Results page as are the scores from the final two 3P Grands Prix.
The SSRA broke new ground as it helped run the Scottish Blind Shooting Championships at Denwood for the first time and, using a completely electronic scoring set-up while running SSRA 3P GP5 on the 50m range, emerged blinking into the evening twilight on Sunday after the three-day event having made a raft of new friends. Competitor Hussein Patwa was in upbeat mood after the competition. "I I think it's gone great from Scotland's point of view, it's given Scotland the chance to show that it's capable of running a competition to a very high standard," he said. "It's also shown people on the continent exactly what we can do here, what our thoughts on shooting are with respect to visual impairment. As you probably know, this is the first exposure to international shooting we've had in the UK, it's great to let people know that we're open for business. Regardless of what the results were, it will herald an era of greater co-operation and open doors to acoustic shooting." With competitors from Malaysia, Austria, Switzerland, Finland and of course Great Britain, the feedback was highly positive, with a number of 600 maximum scores, and the tension and excitement of a sudden-death shoot-off to decide matters added spice on the final day. There was still time to run a fun competition for the shooters' assistants in which the award of a Crunchie bar to the winner simply meant another photo-opportunity for the high-quality field. Under the watchful eye of organiser Jim Hammond, the range crew of Gavin Walker, Colin Watson, Jim and Bruce McIntosh and Sarah Brown kept the Megalink-equipped ranges running smoothly and early indications are that the Blind Shooting event could be expanded next year by popular demand. This was music to Patwa's ears. "I think the bigger the better," he said.
Tom Hodgson took the honours in the storming final of SSRA Grand Prix IV ahead of Mark Szymankiewicz and Matthew Thomson on a glorious afternoon at Denwood. Sheena Sharp delivered an awesome final score of 104.8 with two out of the final's four 10.9 maximum scores. Having survived the incredible downpour during the previous day's 3P Grand Prix, the range, fully equipped with Megalink electronic targets, not only survived weather fit for ducks - and there were a few admittedly plastic ones to be seen downrange - but functioned perfectly to set up a great weekend for the competitors. Thanks must go of course to those who helped it happen by lending out Megalinks - Edinkillie Sport Services, Iain Malone and Graham Rudd - the diligent organisation of Charles Allen, and the mystery duck wrangler.... You can see detailed scores from the Prone Grand Prix here. Taking a paddle through the monsoon at the rear of the range - guess who?
There were more
than a few Scots names in the honours from the searing heat of the Bisley Rifle
meeting. Richard Simpson won Comp 2 in X class and also the trophy for the
combined Scottish and Bisley aggregates. Mel Mutch
won the Life and Annual
members event in X class and also the Daily Mail trophy. SSRA chairman Ian Thomson led a Junior squad to Bisley - to see his diary on how they got on, click here.
The Ladies Team and the Main Team
Results from Rounds 7 and 8 are now available on the Domestic Results Page.
The results for this recent event are now available here.
Jon Hammond and Jen McIntosh found themselves caught up in a historic Olympic Games target shooting programme in Woolwich. While records tumbled - Sergei Martynov of Belarus delivered a superb 600+105.5 in the Men's Prone to set a new finals world record, Jamie Lynn Gray of the United States set Olympic records in qualifying and in the final for the Women's 3P event, and Italy's Nicco Capriani renewed his love affair with the specially-constructed range in the Men's 3P by setting a new Olympic record on the way to a powerful win in the final - there was no room for either Scot, or indeed England's James Huckle, in the final eight of their respective competitions. In the men's 3P final, the USA's Matt Emmons narrowly avoided disaster after shooting a 7.6 to come away with the bronze. In the Men's 3P qualifier, Huckle finished 25th on 1162 ex 1200 and Hammond 41st on 1142. The day before, McIntosh showed great resolve to fight back in the Women's 3P after a tricky start and finish 42nd with 570 ex 600. Both Scots were supported by family, friends and cheered on by spellbound spectators hoping for TeamGB success. Hammond finished 17th with 593 ex 600 in the Men's Prone and McIntosh 393 ex 400 in the opening medal event of the Games, the women's 10m Air Rifle. "It was an incredible feeling to have so many supporters watching," she said.
The Southern Southern Counties Association Open Field Day
takes place at Thirlestane Castle, near Lauder on Sunday 29 July. A one-day
event, the course of fire is 40 shots at 50m and 40 shots at 100 yards. There is
also a disc competition, with teams of three competing at 100 yards to break
those pesky discs - more difficult than it sounds - and a version of the
popular competition at the NSRA's Scottish Meeting. The team of three
competition is handicapped as follows; A class - 0, B class -16, C class - 44.
The 3P GP III was be held at Denwood on Saturday 14 July and was staged using Megalink electronic targets. While the scores come in instantly on electronics, publishing them on this site has proved to be tardy for which the webmaster has been sent to the salt mines. Bobby Spence came away with a win after his 1113 points in the reduced field Men's 3x40 event did the trick and Sheena Sharp won the Womens' 3x20 event with 565. The full results are now available on the Domestic Results page, along with points table for the competition.
Aberdeen's Emma Cole-Hamilton took possession of the coveted Earl Haig chair today at a wet and wet and blustery Dumfries in the NSRA Scottish Meeting when she won the Scottish Championship. Her victory was just one on a day when Scots won every Grand Aggregate from X to D. Sinclair Bruce took the honours in X Class, Seoc Malone A Class, Emma Cole-Hamilton B Class, Kathryn Williamson C Class and Ashley Taylor picked up the silverware for D Class. Scotland also had a 1-2-3 of the podium places in A Class with Seoc followed by RR Simpson and Ian Malone. And there will be plenty other trophies staying north of the Border as there were also wins for Bobby Spence, victory for Fiona Spence in the Ladies Trophy and the Junior Trophy went to Darren Brown. Bill Copland took custody of the impressive Wilkinson sword when he won the Freuchie competition. Meanwhile, England overcame Scotland in both the main international and the Ladies match - with 171 points dropped to the Scots' 174 in the main match and by 113 points dropped to Scotland's 119. The Scotland teams were: Scotland main team (pictured right): AS Bruce, ST Malone, TF Hodgson, RR Simpson, Miss EJ Cole-Hamilton, Ms S Sharp, I Malone, JG Shedden, WJM Cole-Hamilton, W Copland. Reserves: R Spence, Miss F Spence. Ladies team (pictured left): Miss EJ Cole-Hamilton, Ms S Sharp, Miss F Spence, Mrs FE Shedden, Ms M Bexley. Reserves: Miss K Williamson, Mrs MJ Melvin. A full set of results will be made available on the NSRA website.
Because of adverse local weather conditions, the start of shooting this weekend has been postponed, the NSRA has announced. Current plans for the weekend squadded events are that the Early Birds (Comp. 7) and the Dewar Competiton (Comp. 8) will be fired as unsquadded events during the remainder of the meeting. The Scottish Championship for the Haig Trophy (Comp. 1) will be shot on Friday 29 June, Stage 1 in the morning and the final in the afternoon. Despite the turn of events the SSRA AGM will still be held at the Aberdour Hotel in Dumfries on Saturday 23 June at 7.30pm. The agenda can be found here.

scramble for the record books and personal bests were the order of the day at

Entry forms for the Caithness SBRA Open (click here for entry forms 1, 2 and 3.) and SSRA GP3 2012 are now available. "Regulars to the CSBRA Open will know of the exceptional catering that has been offered each year by Elsie and Connie. Unfortunately both Elsie and Connie have retired from the tea tent, and it was with great doubt that they could ever be replaced," commented organiser Marty Simpson. "However, I am delighted to say that Murkle WRI have agreed to cater, and I'm sure that all competitors at Thurdistoft will have great memories (and thickened waists) of the vast delicacies offered." Entry forms are now available from organiser Willie McAulay for June's Triple Dewar competition at the Tullygarth range on 16-17 June. Drop him an email for more information on this event and for a form.
Scotland's team
at the Grand Prix of Liberation in Pilsen have had to contend with more than
just the elements and their rivals. Both Sheena Sharp and James Paterson found
themselves without rifles after some of their equipment failed to arrive by air
in the Czech Republic.
Alloa
& District Rifle Club has had its traditional summer outdoor campaign slashed -
and disappointed secretary Willie McAulay has laid the blame firmly at the door
of the organisers, the National Smallbore Rifle Association. When this
failed to happen, he contacted the NSRA's competition department and was
informed that everything was in the post. "I gave it another week then emailed
the NSRA and was told that as in past years the league had started earlier and
earlier they have now brought it back in line with previous years," revealed an
exasperated McAulay."I had a go at them and suggested that the NSRA, due to
staff shortages, could not keep up to date with their programme of events."
The long-awaited review of the events schedule for Glasgow's Commonwealth Games in 2014 has, as expected, led to the expansion of the shooting programme. Women's Prone is back on the events listing, allowing the likes of Kay Copland and Jennifer McIntosh to take part in the event which brought Scotland so much success in Delhi in 2010. Speaking on http://www.cgcs.org.uk, McIntosh said: “This is fantastic news. I was really disappointed when I heard that the women’s prone event might be removed from the programme and with it the chance to defend my title at a home Games. It is also good news for women’s sport as a whole that consideration is being given to gender equity.” The pairs events will not be restored, but Women's skeet, Women's double trap and Women's 50m Pistol will be introduced to the programme at Barry Buddon near Carnoustie.
The SSRA is running a new 50 metre outdoor competition which can be shot at your home range. It will be run along the same lines as the SSRA 25yd indoor prone league. The competition organiser is council member Willie McAulay (click here to email him for more info). The competition rules will be made available here shortly and if you wish to enter this new and exciting event throughout the summer months, please register your interest with Willie McAulay no later than Monday 7 May .
The ISSF World Cup in London came to a close with a thumbs-up for the temporary ranges at Woolwich Barracks but disappointment that Britain could not land a medal in the small bore and air weapons events. Scotland's Jon Hammond came closest, a blistering 400 ex 400, finishing with a 10.9 shot, in his prone section of the men's 3P event on Saturday. That set him up nicely for a tilt at the final but he fell agonisingly short and supporters in the crowd could only watch as Germany's Maik Eckhardt inexorably closed in on his total of 1165 in the blustery wind and chill (well, it was April) to claim the eighth and last berth in the final by a single point on 1166. The final itself threw up some excitement for silver and bronze but the gold was always in the grasp of Italy's Niccolo Campriani ("the man's a machine", quipped one coach) who won with a score of 1179 +99.2 in the final, ahead of the United States' Matt Emmons on 1173+95.7 for 1268.7. Earlier in the World Cup, Jen McIntosh came up short in her bid to reach the final of the women's 3x20 event, her 565 not proving enough on a day when the gold medal went to Germany's Barbara Engleder with 586 + 100.1 in the final for a total of 686.1, silver to Stephanie Obermoser of Austria with 583 + 102.1 for 685.1 and bronze to Li Du of China with 584 +100.2 for a total of 684.2. Fellow GB team-mates Sheree Cox of England scored 567 and Jenny Corish of Wales 555 in the qualification round. All three Britons had made it out of the elimination phase the day before with McIntosh scoring 568, Corish 576, equalling her personal best, and Cox 575, a new personal best. There had been an earlier disappointment for Hammond and Scotland's hopes in the men's 50m prone rifle event. Hammond scored 591 in the qualifying and finished 11th overall. He therefore missed out on a spot in the final which was won by Sergei Martynov of Belarus, the current world No1. Fellow Scots Neil Stirton and Matthew Thomson had been knocked out in the previous day's elimination, Thomson agonisingly on the countback method after a 591. So the World Cup is over .... but Scotland will hope its athletes will get another chance in London, this time in the Olympics. Meanwhile, a team will travel to Pilzen in the Czech Republic for the Grand Prix of Liberation event. The team will comprise James Paterson, Sheena Sharp, Dave Caughey and Andrew Ozmond.
The annual All Ranges competition at Denwood on 15 April was the curtain-raiser for the forthcoming 2012 SSRA Grand Prix season and was keenly contested by some brave souls who endured wind, rain and near blizzard conditions on the outdoor range and, by comparison, tropical conditions on the indoor range. Ian Henderson Summary of results: Inter Regional Matches: 25 yards: Southern Counties (won on countback); Dewar (Bob Norman Trophy): Highland Club Team: 25 Yards: Larbert; Dewar: Clachnacuddin; Aggregate: Clachnacuddin Handicap Pairs: 25 Yards: Cole-Hamilton/Stofberg (Bon Accord); Dewar: S Bates/J Henderson (Watten) Aggregate S Bates/J Henderson (Watten) Class A: 25 yards Cole-Hamilton (Bon Accord); Dewar: J Henderson (Watten); Aggregate: J Henderson (Watten) Class B: 25 yards N Macdonald (Bearsden); Dewar: M Bexley (Clachnacuddin); Aggregate: M Bexley (Clachnacuddin) Class C: 25 yards: A Taylor (Strathearn); Dewar: C Seale (Watsonians); Aggregate: C Seale (Watsonians) Womens: S Bates (Watten) U21: J Barron (Bon Accord) U18: D Brown (Selkirk) Veterans: J Cole-Hamilton (Bon Accord) Full results available on the Domestic Results page.
On the first day of events at the ISSF World Cup in London, which double as a test event for this summer's Olympics, Jen McIntosh scored 394 in the Women's Air Rifle event. It was not enough to make the final, however, on a day of fiendish competition in which a play-off was needed to decided the final line-up, with no score less than 397 ex 400 being enough. The event was won by left-handed shooter Sonja Pfeilschifter from Germany who overhauled China's Siling Yi - who had notched a perfect 400 in qualifying - in the last shot. "Nice strong finish," said McIntosh, clearly undeterred. "Could have been better but still, a solid start to the World Cup season."
The NSRA Scottish Meeting will be held in Dumfries this year and the organisers are keen to get as many shooters to attend this event, the biggest held north of the Border. Increased attendance could have a big say on how the event is staged in future years. So if your club intends to send two shooters, why not make it three this year and help spread the word on the extra dimension that is outdoor target shooting? The NSRA now has entry forms available for the 2012 Scottish. It is understood that forms will be bundled with the next issue of the Rifleman and the forms can be found online here.
The final results for the SSRA Team Prone League and Individual Prone League are now available from the Domestic Results page.

An ISSF judges course, designed to give applicants a national British
Shooting C licence and put existing holders firmly on the road to a B
licence, will be held on the weekend of 29-30 September on the outskirts of
Edinburgh at the Balerno & Currie Rifle Club, with easy access to the
airport. While the course helps preparations for the 2014 Commonwealth Games
in Glasgow by qualifying officials to ISSF standards, the course will be
open to anyone in the UK. This two-day course will be run by experienced by
ISSF officials and for more information and to register your interest,

Jen McIntosh became the Scottish Women's 10m Air Rifle Champion with a 396 plus 105.3 in the final at Tulliallan - the championship that almost never was - for a score likely to be confirmed as a Scottish record. "I'm pretty happy with the weekend's results," she said. "Saturday was a mixed bag for me but Sunday was a vast improvement. A couple of stupid mistakes in my match cost me points but I was glad to be able to make up for them in the final. It was a good final - much better than anything I've ever shot, even in training, so that was pretty exciting." Fellow Olympic hopeful Neil Stirton won the Men's title after a nervous qualification - firing his last shot with just four seconds remaining - gave him the leading score of 580, equal with James Paterson and he held off his rivals in the final to take the title.
"It
came as quite a surprise to me to win the Scottish Air Rifle Champs on Sunday,
especially after having felt so awful on Saturday and since my focus in training
has primarily been towards .22," said Stirton. "Some of the standing
improvements I've made have definitely helped towards air rifle and I was
delighted to have won this title for the first time." Scores available from the Domestic Results page..

This change has come about partly in response to the NSRA shifting the British 50m championships to September after the Lord Roberts Centre became unavailable on the original date. It is hope that this adjustment by the SSRA will be beneficial to many across the UK, including members of TeamGB who will be able to use the event as part of their Olympic preparations. Entry forms for the SSRA event will be adjusted and published as soon as possible. It is anticipated that that there will be increased demand and for more information or to ask questions (positive or negative), please click here to mail organiser Jim McIntosh.

Banff shooter Lenny Thomson overcame powerful opposition to win the Bill
Dick trophy for the annual speedway competition.
Going into the last set of matches it looked like a three-way competition
between Lenny, Hugh Simpson and Sinclair Bruce. Lenny successfully saw off
Bruce beating him 197 to 196, gained the vital six points to give him an
unassailable lead. This is his first appearance in the event; no doubt it is
the first of many. He can now look forward to shooting in the annual postal
match against North Island, New Zealand.

The new selection policy for athletes to aim for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 is now available here.
“These
are exciting times for Scottish Target Shooting, with an
unprecedented number of athletes on contention for Olympic selection
later this year following on from the best ever performance by our
team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games," said Donald McIntosh,
Performance Programme manager. "The 2014 Games are not really very
far away now, and we will continue to focus the majority of our
efforts into those who are most likely to be in contention for
medals in Glasgow, while keeping an eye on the 2016 Olympic and 2018
Commonwealth Games, and this selection policy reflects those
priorities.”
Glasgow 2014 is now advertising for Sport Competition Managers. If you think you have what is needed to make the shooting events at the next Commonwealth Games go smoothly click here for application details. And for further information, visit the Glasgow 2014 site here.
A Scottish team travelled to the Hague in the Netherlands to compete against some of the world's top air rifle shooters in the first major overseas trip of the season. A largely development squad shot three air rifle matches at the high standard championships. A Scottish team of James Paterson, pictured left, Andrew Ross, Jamie Hodgson and Graham Rudd entered the 10m Men's 60-shot event, with Sarah Bates entering the Women's 40-shot competition and Kathryn Williamson in the junior 40-shot match. Sinclair Bruce was also in attendance as the team manager and coach while Colin Watson was there developing his knowledge and experience on the Jury. There were a number of impressive performances from the Scottish shooters and everyone took a lot of positives away from the match as well as things which require more training or advice from overseas shooters, who have a vast wealth of experience to tap into. The first day saw Graham Rudd make the men's final with an impressive 587+98.6 for 8th place, after a break from competitive shooting. James was 12th with Jamie edging out Andrew for 16th and 17th places respectively. Sarah was 12th and Kathryn 23rd in their respective events. The second day saw a new personal best from Sarah Bates of 384 for 11th place while Graham narrowly missed out on the men's final finishing 9th in a high standard event where England's James Huckle broke the British record with 598 ex600. The final day of competition saw more good performances from the Scottish team with Graham missing out on the final again following a 5 shot shoot off finishing 9th and James close behind in tenth place and Andrew Ross finished with a 99 string for 13th place and Kathryn was 15th with a creditable 381. Attending and competing at high level competitions benefits all the squad as athletes and coaches alike learn from the international standard shooters competing. Form here many of the squad will continue their development and training on the electronic Megalink targets ahead of the rest of the season and forthcoming domestic matches and major championships in Dortmund, Hannover and Plzen. James Paterson
Lasswade's Jonty Barron, 18, has been awarded a 1000 grant from Comet and SportsAid. It has been decided to reschedule the final air grand prix of the 2011-12 season from 26 February to Sunday 18 March. This will avoid clashing with the British Airgun Championships at Bisley. The new date for Air GP5 also means a new venue, and it will now take place during the Scottish ISSF 10m Championships at Tulliallan rather than at Glenrothes. The competition organisers are happy to run the GP cards concurrently with the Championship series if competitors prefer. For more details please contact Jim McIntosh. Air Rifle GP3 was held at Denwood and was won by Andrew Ross with a qualifying score of 574 ex 600 and then 94.0 in the final for a total of 668, coming in ahead of Robin Law who scored 566 +99.4 for 665.4 and Sarah Bates who scored 567 +98.3 for a total of 665.3. The Pistol event was won by D Robertson of Bon Accord with a score of 521 ex 600 plus 91.6 in the final for a total of 612.6 with B McIntosh in second with 514 plus 94.6 for a total of 608.6 and C McGregor on 515 plus 89.4 for 604.4. Detailed results are available on the Domestic Results page. "There was no ice inside the range but it would not have been a surprise to find some, the range was set up so we were able to start on time and schedule," reports Jim McIntosh. "We had in all three details a full house, this was nice. The shooting was also nice with a number finding the cold on the first detail a problem. Looking at the scores and results make for interesting reading, the qualifying scores were close resulting in very competitive finals, a number of PBs were set and an enjoyable day all round. The next one at Carlisle will find that our numbers a bit depleted as this will clash with Intershoot in Holland where some of our stalwart will be keeping the Saltire flying."
After an appeal for sponsors to help the SSRA add to its Megalink electronic targets (30 August 2011), the association is pleased to announce that four units have been obtained and are now in use with the Scotland squads. With a total of ten Megalinks available it will now be possible to hold the finals at the 10m & 50m Championships and the Grand Prix matches with them, providing a much better experience for athletes and spectators alike as well the opportunity for athletes to use them for day-to-day training on their home ranges. Many thanks to all involved for providing invaluable support to Scottish target shooting. News Archive All of the news stories that appear here will be archived periodically. Team Scotland is under starter's orders for next year's Commonwealth Games, which returns north of the Border for the first time since 1986. Scotland's target shooters were the stars of the show in Delhi in 2010 and their medal haul was recognised by Jon Hammond carrying the team flag at the closing ceremony of the Games. Now it is almost time for our athletes to prove they can do the nation proud on home soil too. The Games are being staged not just in Glasgow but also in Edinburgh at the Royal Commonwealth Pool and at Barry Buddon near Carnoustie. The SSRA wants everyone involved in sport in Scotland to play their part too, be it by volunteering for roles at the Games or just lending support to our athletes.

"Regulars to the CSBRA Open will know of the exceptional catering that has been offered each year by Elsie and Connie. Unfortunately both Elsie and Connie have retired from the tea tent, and it was with great doubt that they could ever be replaced," commented organiser Marty Simpson. "However, I am delighted to say that Murkle WRI have agreed to cater, and I'm sure that all competitors at Thurdistoft will have great memories (and thickened waists) of the vast delicacies offered." Scotland's team
at the Grand Prix of Liberation in Pilsen have had to contend with more than
just the elements and their rivals.

The British Schools Team competing in Dortmund next week

The SSRA Scottish 50m championships will now be staged on a new date, June 9 & 10 2012.

Lenny, right, is presented with his prize by Cyril De Jonckheere.

As part of Comet’s charity partnership with SportsAid, the electrical specialist will back 20 young talented sports people around the UK with training grants, giving them a vital boost during the defining early years of their sporting careers. Results from the Air Rifle Winter League are now available here on the Domestic Results page. Also, results from the fourth round of the SSRA Prone Team League have now been published and can also be viewed from the Domestic Results page.
